Neighbourhood República
The neighbourhood República is now known as the University district of Santiago. It is located in Santiago center, one of the most traditional neighbourhoods of Chile.
In the beginning, the neighbourhood República was an elegant exclusive residential sector in which major families were building luxurious palaces.
Due to the age and the huge mansions the district was declared in 1992 as Typical Zone by the Consejo de Monumentos Nacionales de Chile.
Today it is a neighbourhood of great architectural value, where in recent years, more than 30 institutions such as universities and professional institutes have been established. Moreover resorts and various artistic activities are making the area of República to one of the busiest towns in central Santiago.
